A New Objective for High Resolution Imaging of Bose - Einstein

چکیده
A New Objective for High Resolution Imaging of Bose-Einstein Condensates In the framework of this thesis a new imaging system for the measurement of the atomic density distribution in Bose-Einstein condensates has been built and characterized. The achieved optical resolution of 1.1 µm according to the Rayleigh criterion makes it now possible to observe structures on the scale of the so-called 'healing length'. This 'healing length' is a consequence of the interaction between the atoms and gives the typical order of magnitude on which density variations in the condensate occur. A known effect on this scale are dark solitons, being non-dispersive structures in the condensate. In the second part of this thesis an experiment for the generation of dark solitons with the help of a Bose-Einstein Condensate in a double-well potential is presented and first results are discussed.

Dynamic Properties of Dilute Bose-Einstein Condensates
In this thesis, a new apparatus for the study of Bose-Einstein condensation is described, and the first two experiments performed with the new device are discussed. The new instrument was constructed for the creation of dilute gas sodium Bose-Einstein condensates, and features an optical quality quartz cell, a high-flux spin-flip Zeeman slower, a tightly confining magnetic trap, and a high-reso...
متن کاملSolitons for nearly integrable bright spinor Bose-Einstein condensate
Using the explicit forms of eigenstates for linearized operator related to a matrix version of Nonlinear Schrödinger equation, soliton perturbation theory is developed for the $F=1$ bright spinor Bose-Einstein condensates. A small disturbance of the integrability condition can be considered as a small correction to the integrable equation. By choosing appropriate perturbation, the soli...
متن کاملBOSE-EINSTEIN CORRELATIONS IN PION PRODUCTION AT TRISTAN
Measurement of Bose-Einstein correlations in the production of like-signed pion pairs has been made with the AMY detector at TRISTAN. An event sample of 10120 hadronic events with ranging between 50 to 61 GeV was used. These measurements indicate a strength of the enhancement of ? = 0.61M.07, with a typical correlation size of Ro = 1.16±.08 fm. This value of ? is consistent with measurem...
متن کاملSurface excitations of a bose-einstein condensate
Surface modes in a Bose-Einstein condensate of sodium atoms have been studied. We observed excitations of standing and rotating quadrupolar and hexadecapolar modes. The modes were excited with high spatial and temporal resolution using the optical dipole force of a rapidly scanning laser beam. This novel technique is very flexible and should be useful for the study of rotating Bose-Einstein con...
متن کاملSingle-particle-sensitive imaging of freely propagating ultracold atoms
We present a novel imaging system for ultracold quantum gases in expansion. After release from a confining potential, atoms fall through a sheet of resonant excitation laser light and the emitted fluorescence photons are imaged onto an amplified CCD camera using a high numerical aperture optical system. The imaging system reaches an extraordinary dynamic range, not attainable with conventional ...
